I. Event Review

The annual Cross Strait Four Regions Young Lawyers Forum organised by the Law Society for lawyers from the Mainland, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong was successfully held on 20 October 2017. The event attracted 250 attendees from 30 lawyer associations, a new record since it debuted in 2011.

Themed "The New Global Political and Economic Landscape and the Future of Young Lawyers", 2017’s forum featured a main forum and three breakout sessions. Distinguished guests from the four regions, including government officials, representatives from the legal sector and academics, were invited to share their insights and experience on topics such as the impact of technology development and artificial intelligence on the legal profession, international dispute resolution procedure, and competition law in the four places. Attendees participated actively in the event and were particularly interested in the topic of technology development. In addition, organisation visits and a welcome reception were also arranged for all attendees.

Attendees said that the forum provided young lawyers from across the strait with a valuable opportunity to understand and exchange information on the development of the legal profession, and to equip themselves for future challenges and new opportunities.

Guests from different sectors shared their insights on global political and economic trends, as well as the challenges and opportunities brought about by technology and artificial intelligence.

Officiating guest Mr. Wesley Wong, Solicitor General of the Legal Policy Division of the Department of Justice of the HKSAR, spoke at the opening ceremony.

Guests, speakers and representatives from lawyers associations attended the forum.
