I. Event Review

The Law Society hosts the Cross Strait Four Regions Young Lawyers Forum for lawyers from Mainland China, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong annually. The 8th Forum was successfully held on 26 October 2018, attracting more than 265 participants from 33 lawyers associations which is a record high since its inception in 2011.

Under the theme “Legal Innovation: Opportunities and Challenges”, 2018’s Forum featured one plenary forum and three breakout sessions. Guests from the four regions, including representatives of the political, business and legal sectors, were invited to share their experiences and insights on topics such as succession planning and wealth management services, anti-money laundering and cross-border crimes, as well as corporate finance of the four regions. Attendees participated in the Forum actively, and they were particularly interested in the topic of wealth management services. A speed-dating session was added to allow attendees to speak on the career development of young lawyers and relevant soft skills. The Law Society also arranged some visits to various organisations and a welcome reception for the participants.

The Forum provided a valuable platform for young lawyers from the four regions to gain a better understanding on the development trends in the legal profession, so as to equip themselves for future challenges and opportunities.

Officiating guest Secretary for Justice Teresa Cheng, SC delivered the opening speech.
