DIRECTOR OF STANDARDS AND DEVELOPMENT

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated and suitably qualified person to join the Law Society in the key management post of Director of Standards and Development.

The person will head the Standards and Development Department which is responsible for maintaining and improving standards in the solicitors’ branch of the legal profession.

The person we are looking for must be able to demonstrate :

  • significant practical legal experience (not less than 7 years’  post qualification experience as a guide, with preference being given to applicants admitted to practice in Hong Kong)
  • administrative and management experience at a senior level
  • sound experience in policy formulation and project implementation
  • the ability to provide strategic advice to executive management
  • the ability to lead, mentor and direct a team of professional and non-professional staff
  • high level communication skills, including an excellent command of written and spoken proficiency in English and Chinese.

 

Applicants with experience in legal education/ training will be preferred and relevant experience in professional regulation and legislative drafting is highly desirable.

INVESTIGATION COUNSEL (Ref: COM/IC)

The Law Society seeks applications from an enthusiastic and responsible solicitor to fill the position of Investigation Counsel in the Compliance Department. The appointee will be responsible for investigating complaints, conducting inspections against law firms and assisting Intervention Agents in the intervention of law firms.

Requirements:

  • More than 3 years' post-qualification experience;
  • Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua) and be able to prepare written reports in English;
  • Previous investigation experience will be an advantage;
  • Strong communications and interpersonal skills, organized, highly efficient and independent.

LEGAL RESEARCHER (Ref: CEA/LR)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, competent and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Legal Researcher in the Communications and External Affairs Department.

Reporting to the Director of Communications and External Affairs, the appointee will be responsible for searching, collating and processing research materials and information on legal topics, supporting the preparation of internal materials such as presentation materials by providing background search, figures and statistics and policy updates, performing other research-related duties or duties that warrant legal knowledge and taking care of applications by the Law Society for Government funding when necessary.

Requirements:

  • A degree holder, preferably in law, in particular in PRC law as a plus;
  • Minimum 5 years of legal research experience;
  • A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including proficiency in Putonghua);
  • Good computer skills including MS Office and Chinese Word Processing; and
  • Be able to explore, identify, collect, synthesise and present up-to-date information from reliable sources in a timely, concise and organised manner.

ASSISTANT, COMPLIANCE (Ref: COM/ASST)

The Law Society seeks applications from an enthusiastic and responsible person to fill the position of Assistant in the Compliance Department. 

Job Duties:

  • To perform secretarial and clerical support to Investigation Counsel (“IC”);
  • To assist the IC to handle complaints and answer enquiries from the public and members;
  • To collate documents and assist the IC to prepare relevant reports;
  • To prepare draft correspondence (including memorandum and letters), keep relevant outgoing records and maintain proper filing both physically and digitally;
  • To fill in forms for conducting land searches, company searches, bankruptcy searches and death searches, etc.

Requirements:

  • F.6 or above with a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua);
  • At least 1 year secretarial/clerical working experience;
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Chinese Word Processing;
  • Good telephone manner; and

ASSISTANT, STANDARDS AND DEVELOPMENT (Ref: S&D/ASST)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, responsible person to fill the position of Assistant in the Standards and Development Department.

Job Duties:

  • To assist in the administration of the training programmes of the Law Society; 
  • To be responsible for the logistics of training courses, organisation of conferences, assessments, professional examinations and other activities;

ANALYST PROGRAMMER (Ref: IT/AP)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, responsible person to fill the position of Analyst Programmer in the IT Section.  

Job Duties:

  • Participate in Application development life cycle for new web application development;  
  • Collaborate with vendor in business analysis, user requirement studies, testing and data migration and application go live;
  • Support and maintain our in-house application systems, manage documentation; 
  • 2nd Tier support in Website Content Management; and
  • Provide technical support on web application.

Requirements:

  • Higher Diploma holder or above in Computer Science or related disciplines with at least 2 years' relevant experience;
  • Experience in MS Dynamics CRM, and MS SQL will be an advantage;
  • Experience in software development and using JavaScript HTML5, Laravel/PHP, MySQL is a plus;
  • Experience in Content Management System (e.g. SiteCore) and/or Mobile app is a plus;
  • Good communication, analytical and problem solving skill and able to work independently under minimal supervision; and
  • Immediate availability is preferred.

COMMUNICATIONS AND EXTERNAL AFFAIRS OFFICER (Ref: CEA/OFR)

The Law Society seeks applications from enthusiastic, competent and suitably qualified persons to fill the position of Communications and External Affairs Officer.

The appointee will be responsible for supporting the communications and external affairs function of the Law Society. This includes assisting in the organization of publicity, local events, and activities outside Hong Kong to promote Hong Kong’s legal services and enhancing the corporate image of the Law Society. The appointee will also assist in preparing papers for committee meetings, drafting executive speeches, coordinating the production of promotional materials, news-monitoring, as well as providing support for media activities.

Requirements:

  • A degree holder with 2 to 3 years of experience in similar capacity;
  • A good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, including proficiency in Putonghua;
  • Independent, strong communication skills, and able to multi-task and work under pressure;
  • Good computer skills, including MS Office and Chinese Word Processing;
  • Travelling may be required;
  • Experience in event management will be an advantage;
  • Knowledge in using video conferencing platforms, Photoshop and other graphic design software will be an advantage;
